OpenDesign Motion: open-source code-to-video without the Claude Motion lock-in

Spotted, not yet tested

Codename OpenDesign Motion: ask an agent for a video, get editable source plus an MP4. Desktop is free OSS; Cloud is paid. About 101.5k GitHub stars when we checked.

OpenDesign (nexu-io) shipped open-design-v0.25.0 on Oct 15 under Apache-2.0, with the motion product codenamed OpenDesign Motion. The pitch is an open-source alternative to Claude Motion: turn ideas into videos with code. You ask for a video and get editable source plus an MP4. Interactive animations stay as runnable HTML. The launch post and site list five bundled examples — Motion Future, Product Promo, Showreel, UI Morph, and Visual Lesson — and the GitHub repo sits at roughly 101.5k stars as of our check. Site: https://open-design.ai. Related repo: nexu-io/motion-anything.

Model and agent lock-in is the main contrast with Anthropic's Claude Motion. OpenDesign says it works with many agents and models: Claude, Codex, Cursor, DeepSeek, bring-your-own-key, and local setups. Desktop is free open source; Cloud is the paid tier. That is the angle for anyone who has been waiting on Team or Enterprise access for Claude Motion, or who wants the same code-to-video loop on whatever stack they already run.

How it sits next to tools already on ReelStack: Remotion is the mature React-to-video path with a paid licence above three people. HyperFrames is HeyGen's Apache-2.0 HTML/CSS/GSAP renderer with an agent skill router. OpenDesign Motion is closer to the Claude Motion product shape — idea in, editable motion project out — but as OSS you can run locally. We haven't built with it yet; treat the five examples and the v0.25.0 notes as the starting checklist.

Our take: if Claude Motion's access wall is the blocker, try Desktop first and keep Cloud as an option. Credit OpenDesign / nexu-io (@OpenDesignHQ). We spotted it from their Oct 15 launch thread and the tagged release.
