Epic's Unreal Engine plugin for Claude Code is trending. The video angle is Sequencer previs
Hundreds of Unreal Editor tools in 30+ toolsets, including Sequencer, Niagara, materials and Control Rigs, exposed to Claude Code over MCP. It isn't new, but it's #1 on GitHub's Shell trending today, and it opens up agent-built previs and blockouts.
Epic's official plugin hit #1 on GitHub's daily Shell trending list today, with 611 stars in a day and about 1,250 in total. That followed an Oct 18 @RoundtableSpace post with more than 4,900 likes that presented it as a fresh release. Several people pointed out that it isn't new: the repo (MIT) was created in June and is listed in Anthropic's official claude-plugins-official marketplace. What's new is that a lot of people found it this weekend.
What it is: an unreal-mcp skill that teaches Claude how to drive the Unreal Editor through Unreal's own MCP server, plus a SessionStart hook that tells Claude it's in an Unreal project. The README lists toolsets for actors, Blueprints, materials, Niagara, Control Rigs, Sequencer, State Trees, widgets, the Gameplay Ability System and automation testing. To set it up, run /plugin install unreal-engine-skills-for-claude-code@claude-plugins-official. In the editor, enable both the ModelContextProtocol and AllToolsets plugins (without AllToolsets the server exposes no tools), keep the editor open, and run ModelContextProtocol.StartServer. The default endpoint is port 8000 at /mcp. It works on macOS and Linux, and on Windows through Git Bash or WSL.
Why it's on ReelStack: Sequencer is Unreal's cinematic timeline, and Niagara is its effects system. An agent that can place actors, light a set, add effects and lay down camera moves can make the clay or blockout pass that layout-to-render workflows need, like the LTX-2.5 Layout-to-Render LoRA we covered, which takes a playblast plus one styled frame. AI Shot Studio's Oct 19 video walks through connecting Claude to Unreal 5.8 for AI filmmaking: a MetaHuman scene, real cities from Cesium and Google 3D tiles, and when to use Blender instead. Unity also has an official agent plugin, and @OlegSoroko has published an unofficial Codex port of Epic's skills, tested on UE 5.8.3.
Our take: we haven't checked how much of Sequencer's camera and keyframe work the exposed tools cover, so treat 'agent-directed previs' as promising, not proven. Commit or back up your project before you let an agent loose in a level. Spotted, not tested.
