Code-video engines this week: Remotion adds shatter() and curves(), HyperFrames gets GIF export and a Windows app
Remotion's Oct 26 release grows @remotion/effects again with 3D fragment breakups and colour curves you can edit in Studio. HeyGen's HyperFrames shipped four patch releases the same day, with GIF export, a Windows app offer and faster scrubbing on long films.
Remotion v4.0.539 (Oct 26, 6:04 AM MDT) adds two effects to @remotion/effects, the After Effects-style package we last looked at on Oct 19. shatter() breaks any layer into 3D pieces in a bricks, glass, hexagon, square or triangle pattern. Try This Motion School's walkthrough shows that you drive it with a time value (frame divided by fps), so the simulation is deterministic: same seed, same shards, every render. Pattern origin and force centre are separate controls, and a negative strength pulls the pieces inward for an implode instead of a burst. curves() brings photo-editor-style colour curves, with graphical controls in Remotion Studio.
The rest of the release is bug fixes that matter for agent-written compositions. There are fixes for spring() overshoot clamping with custom ranges, hue interpolation in interpolateColors(), multi-keyframe loops in interpolate(), 3D transforms in interpolateStyles(), and several audio-data leaks. Lambda users get working launch cleanup and render usage flags.
HyperFrames went from v0.8.203 to v0.8.206 on Oct 26. Per the changelog, Studio can export GIFs with a loop count, and the CLI now offers a Windows desktop app download. The latest patch makes scrubbing long films cheaper, removes a roughly 45-second wait for compositions without a timeline script, makes preview and final render agree on frame and PNG colour, and adds HEIC image support.
Our take: shatter() is the kind of transition explainer and launch videos use constantly, and it's now one function call an agent can write and repeat exactly. If you use Remotion skills with Claude Code, update and ask for a glass shatter between title cards. If you're on HyperFrames, GIF export is useful for social teasers and README demos.
