Kapwing's MCP lets Claude or Codex caption, translate and voice-clone-dub a video, and the team published three slash-command skills

Add https://www.kapwing.com/mcp as a custom connector in Claude (or a one-liner in Codex), sign in with OAuth, and the agent can upload a clip, burn word-by-word captions, translate them on the original timing, and dub it with each speaker's voice cloned. Kapwing's video ships /captions, /translate and /dubbing skills.

Kapwing launched an official MCP this week. CEO Julia Enthoven posted it on Oct 21, and @KapwingApp followed with a how-to article on Oct 22. Kapwing's help page lists what it can do today: upload media, fetch your latest export, add subtitles, translate subtitles, and AI-dub into another language. It also reports workspace info such as remaining credits. It uses OAuth with no API key, works on free accounts too, and runs on your existing workspace credits.

The companion video from Kapwing's channel is the useful part. The presenter connects the MCP (he says it exposes 48 tools) and drops three free skills into Claude Code: /captions, /translate and /dubbing. /captions uploads the clip, transcribes it (about 17 s for his podcast clip), adds word-by-word captions and saves the MP4 back to your folder. /translate keeps each translated caption on the original timing. /dubbing detects the two speakers, clones each voice separately and speaks the translation. He says five languages in one command came back in about a minute and a half.

Why it matters: localization was the step agent edit pipelines usually hand off to a person. Here it goes on the end of an existing Claude Code or Codex edit. Cut with HyperFrames or Remotion, then call /dubbing with a list of languages, and you get one export per language. He suggests uploading the dubs as extra audio tracks on YouTube or as Instagram trial reels.

Kapwing says itself that the MCP is new and suggests reviewing captions in the Kapwing editor before you publish. Dubbing and translation use credits, so price out a five-language batch on your plan first. Dub only voices you have permission to clone. We haven't tested it yet. The skills and setup links are in the video description.
